    How the WeatherWatch Works...
Each Real-Time WeatherWatch remote station consists of weather instrumentation (anemometer, wind vane, barometer and thermometer) and a web camera connected to a PC. The weather station currently used at each site is the Weather Monitor II by Davis Instruments .

Software on each weather station PC captures weather data and images continuously and stores it in a local database. Another software application running on the Real-Time WeatherWatch server manages the retrieval of the weather data from the remote sites. When a timer is triggered, the data is downloaded from the remote site to the Real-Time WeatherWatch server (located at our offices in Kenilworth) via a 33,6k modem. The timers are configurable, and are currently set for hourly weather data and image downloads.

The web server (which has a static IP address) receives the information from the weather stations and stores the data in a server database. When a user access the website, requests are made against the database by the web application. The requested data are retrieved and inserted into an html file.

In addition to the Weather Stations, current sea conditions at two coastal locations are also provided.
